Welcome to the Station: Rooms, Pods, and Peculiar Fellow Travelers
By Ashton Data Publishing, LLC — where coffee is optional but chaos is guaranteed
Greetings, space wanderers!
Welcome back to Dev Blog #5! This week, instead of lasers, explosions, or rogue AI, we took a breather and explored something equally important: the player hub.
Think of it as the heart of the galaxy: a massive orbital station where you’ll create characters, pick careers, meet other travelers, and occasionally spill your coffee on alien tech.
And yes — it’s as chaotic and exciting as it sounds.
The Station Layout: A Home Among the Stars
Our orbital station isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a living, breathing hub for players to prepare for adventures:
- Arrival Dock: Where your journey begins. Bright lights, bustling NPCs, cargo drones zipping around, and the occasional rogue luggage floating in zero-G.
- Hallways & Bridges: Wide corridors, observation decks, and maintenance shafts. Some floors are clean and polished, others… suspiciously sticky. (We don’t ask questions.)
- Observation Decks: For enjoying the view of spinning planets, distant nebulae, and space goats grazing on asteroid debris.
It’s designed to feel alive, and yes — sometimes unpredictable.
BIO Chamber: Birthplace of Characters
At the core of the station is the BIO Chamber, where characters are born (virtually, thankfully) and fully customized:
- Appearance Pod: Choose species, hair, eyes, skin patterns, tentacle length (if applicable), and accessories.
- Skill Interface: Assign initial skills influenced by your chosen career path. A visual hologram updates in real-time as you tweak stats.
- Background Generator: A combination of dice rolls and story events ensures each character has a unique life path, from heroic acts to embarrassing mishaps.
The BIO Chamber is fully interactive, fun, and slightly addictive. Warning: users may spend hours experimenting with bizarre combinations.
Career Booths: Pick Your Destiny
Once your character is ready, you head to the Career Booths:
- Each booth represents a career path — Military, Scout/Courier, Merchant, Agent/Spy, Miner, and more.
- Inside, holographic instructors give advice, simulate training exercises, and sometimes scold you for bad dice rolls.
- Completing tutorials here grants starting skills, gear, and unique career perks.
- Bonus: Some booths have hidden Easter eggs. Hint: one involves alien space goats and a malfunctioning console.
Career selection isn’t just mechanical — it’s storytelling and fun rolled into one glowing pod.
Social Lounge: Meet, Greet, and Gossip
Finally, no station is complete without a Social Lounge:
- Holo-tables show mission boards, gossip, and faction updates.
- NPCs and other players (if multiplayer) can interact, trade, or brag about their latest adventures.
- The lounge also has mini-games, food replicators, and a suspiciously over-enthusiastic robotic barista.
- Perfect spot to relax before heading back into the galaxy… or plotting a daring heist.
It’s the beating heart of station life — where stories begin, alliances are formed, and rivalries sometimes start over who got the last synthesized latte.
Final Thoughts for Blog #5
This week was all about immersion, personality, and hub spaces.
The station is more than just a menu or loading screen — it’s a place to explore, experiment, and socialize before venturing into the galaxy.
Next week: Dev Blog #6 — “Alien Encounters: Our First NPCs Learn to Think (Sort of)”
Until then, keep your boots polished, your BIO Chamber settings saved, and maybe tip the robotic barista — it’s been a long week.
